NIPPA...The Early Years Organisation
PROJECT TITLE: Linking Early Childhood Services at a European and International Level

NIPPA - The Early Years Organisation is the largest Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) working in the early childhood sector in Northern Ireland. Formed in 1965, NIPPA promotes, supports and
advocates for the development of high quality care, education and play facilities for children aged 0-14 years and their families within an ethos of family support and community development.

NIPPA works in strategic partnership with civic society, early childhood development (ECD), other governmental and non-governmental organisations, parents and local communities in Northern Ireland and Eastern Europe to provide:
  • A model for consulting with young children
  • Specialist community based interventions with Traveller/Roma children, children with Autism, children and families living in rural areas and supporting young children to respect - and include - others who are different to themselves (Media Initiative for Children)
  • Advice, support, mentoring, modelling and training for ECD practitioners working with children aged 0-3 and 3-6 years based on international best practice and using play based approaches
  • Innovative approaches to governance, partnership, planning, advocacy and funding for individual organisations and strategic partnerships in the ECD sector
NIPPA jointly hosted Working Forum Belfast and continues to work with the World Forum Foundation to facilitate a network of early childhood leaders from 14 countries (Albania, Colombia, Croatia, Israel, Mali, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Phillipines, Rwanda, South Africa, USA, Northern Ireland, Bosnia-Herzegovinia and Iraq) meet and explore the contribution of early childhood education to peace and reconciliation. The group will shortly publish a book.

NORTHERN IRELAND UNION OF SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT (NIUSE)
PROJECT TITLE: SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT - HOME AND AWAY

This project seeks to develop the participation of NIUSE in the wider European Union of Supported Employment and to develop links with Eastern European countries to promote Supported Employment
models in these countries. Supported Employment is an alternative model to traditional vocational training and employment for people with disabilities. Supported Employment assists disabled people to access employment and stay in employment. The main aims of the project are three fold:
  • To maintain and sustain the local/regional Supported Employment Network in Northern Ireland through the development of the NIUSE. NIUSE intends to develop and maintain a central resource to promote and provide technical assistance for Supported Employment across Northern Ireland.
  • To develop NIUSE participation in the European Union of Supported Employment (EUSE).
  • To develop links with Eastern European Countries to promote Supported Employment models and to assist and advise them to develop supported employment practices.
