NIPPA...The
Early Years Organisation
PROJECT
TITLE: Linking Early Childhood Services at a European and International Level
NIPPA - The Early Years Organisation is the largest Non-Governmental Organisation
(NGO) working in the early childhood sector in Northern Ireland. Formed in 1965,
NIPPA promotes, supports and |
advocates
for the development of high quality care, education and play facilities for children
aged 0-14 years and their families within an ethos of family support and community
development.
NIPPA works in strategic partnership with civic society,
early childhood development (ECD), other governmental and non-governmental organisations,
parents and local communities in Northern Ireland and Eastern Europe to provide: |

A model for consulting with young children
- Specialist
community based interventions with Traveller/Roma children, children with Autism,
children and families living in rural areas and supporting young children to respect
- and include - others who are different to themselves (Media Initiative for Children)
- Advice,
support, mentoring, modelling and training for ECD practitioners working with
children aged 0-3 and 3-6 years based on international best practice and using
play based approaches
- Innovative
approaches to governance, partnership, planning, advocacy and funding for individual
organisations and strategic partnerships in the ECD sector
| NIPPA
jointly hosted Working Forum Belfast and continues to work with the World Forum
Foundation to facilitate a network of early childhood leaders from 14 countries
(Albania, Colombia, Croatia, Israel, Mali, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Phillipines,
Rwanda, South Africa, USA, Northern Ireland, Bosnia-Herzegovinia and Iraq) meet
and explore the contribution of early childhood education to peace and reconciliation.
The group will shortly publish a book.

NORTHERN
IRELAND UNION OF SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT (NIUSE)
PROJECT
TITLE: SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT - HOME AND AWAY
This project seeks to develop
the participation of NIUSE in the wider European Union of Supported Employment
and to develop links with Eastern European countries to promote Supported Employment

| models
in these countries. Supported Employment is an alternative model to traditional
vocational training and employment for people with disabilities. Supported Employment
assists disabled people to access employment and stay in employment. The main
aims of the project are three fold: | - To
maintain and sustain the local/regional Supported Employment Network in Northern
Ireland through the development of the NIUSE. NIUSE intends to develop and maintain
a central resource to promote and provide technical assistance for Supported Employment
across Northern Ireland.
- To
develop NIUSE participation in the European Union of Supported Employment (EUSE).
- To
develop links with Eastern European Countries to promote Supported Employment
models and to assist and advise them to develop supported employment practices.
