This
project proposes to develop a body of knowledge around good practice in youth
work and intends to build the capacity of the youth work community in Northern
Ireland. It will contribute to international best practice and in particular focus
on preparing young people for life in a divided society and on conflict transformation
and active citizenship. Cumulatively
the project's activities will lead to the creation of an agreed framework for
effective practice, new resources for youth sector practitioners (in the form
of guidance materials) and an agreement around common measures when evaluating
practice in youth work. Consultations will involve academics and youth work professionals
in Northern Ireland, Great Britain, Republic of Ireland, various countries in
Europe, USA and South Africa.
The
primary target group for this project will be individuals who work with young
people and more specifically those who train and support those youth workers.
The expectation is that through improved knowledge and awareness trainers and
policy makers will make decisions and take actions that will ultimately benefit
young people. Young people are therefore indirect and not direct beneficiaries
of this project.
